When you start loose leash or structured walking, your dog is going to have no idea what you are looking for from them.

If you have gone from walks where your dog pulls you straight into teaching structured walking, you are going to run into some confusion from your dog on why the rules have changed all of the sudden.

That is 100% okay, but now it’s your job to teach them and show them what the rules of the leash are now.

Anytime your dog gets ahead of you, make some type of change and focus on reconnecting with your dog through the leash. You will notice the amount of times you need to make a change will decrease as your dog starts to understand what you are looking for. Even well trained dogs need some help reconnecting from time to time.
